Abstract
Abstract Diffusivities in Laves phases in TiFe2, TiCr2 and Ti(Fe, Cr), have been obtained. Two cases have been analysed : (a) diffusion due to concentration gradients in the intermetallics already formed (‘mixing diffusion’) and (b) diffusion in the intermetallics in the course of their growth (‘reactive diffusion’). In reactive diffusion the diffusivities are about two orders higher than in mixing diffusion. These higher diffusivities are attributed to excess vacancies formed on the moving transformation boundary and trapped in the new phase.
