Abstract

The reactions of benzoyl and lauryl peroxides with various tertiary aromatic amines have been studied. The presence of 2 stages in the reaction of benzoyl peroxide with tetramethylphenylene diamine, differing in reaction rate, has been demonstrated. It has been shown that the radical-initiated polymerization of styrene is due both to decomposition of a primary peroxide-amine complex and to a further transformation of the decomposition products.
