Abstract

Biomimetic and enzymatic oxidations of benzyl sulfides and sulfoxides lead to products (sulfoxides or sulfones) different from those obtained with bona fide electron transfer oxidations (products of CH and/or CS bond cleavage), which suggests the operation of an oxygen transfer mechanism.
