Abstract

The design theory and construction technology of the concrete faced rockfill dam (CFRD) had reached the advanced world level at the present stage in China. But the traditional measuring method is not suitable for the safety monitoring of the high concrete faced rockfill dam with the height of more than 300 m. By summarizing the basic technical requirements and key technical design of the inner deformation measuring method for the high concrete faced rockfill dam, the pipe-robot monitoring system which could measure the inner deformation of dam in pipes with the length of 1000 m was developed. The analysis of error control shows that the measuring error of single measuring point or the all points can meet the measurement accuracy requirements. Although the pipe-robot system was just developed and the application of it in engineering is only the piping installation of pipe-robot system at the dam construction stage, on the basis of modeling test with 1:1 scale and comparative analysis of results, the feasibility and applicability of the utilization of the pipe-robot technique for measuring the inner deformation of the high concrete faced rockfill dam were tested and verified. This paper introduced pipe-robot system and analyzed the data obtained in the model test, proposing a new monitoring technology and new design concept, which is different from the traditional measuring method of the inner deformation of CFRD.
