Naval Engineers JournalVolume 82, Issue 4 p. 93-96 THE MARITIME INDUSTRY GETS ITS OWN COMPUTERIZED MARITIME RESEARCH INFORMATION SERVICE (MRIS) FRANK KESTERMAN, FRANK KESTERMAN The author is involved with the office of Research and Development, Maritime Administration, Department of Commerce. He is responsible for long-range planning, advanced research projects and new technology. Kesterman has been working on the development of MRIS since its early planning stages in 1968. He organized and coordinated a recent Woods Hole Conference at which the maritime industry developed a national five-year R & D plan. He was also technical director of the International “Europort 69” Conference on Advanced Marine Technology in the shipping and shipbuilding industries held at Amsterdam last November.
