Abstract

The g factor of the 9 2 + state at 114 keV in Lu 175 has been determined by the perturbed angular correlation method. The result obtained with the source in the form of ytterbium metal is g = +0.40±0.04. The ratio between the magnetic interaction strengths with the field applied to the metal source and to an aqueous solution of Yb(NO 3) 3 was found to be 1.07±0.13. Since the parent atom is paramagnetic in the solution but not in the metal, different effects due to the atomic recovery might be expected in the two sources. The conclusion is that the recovery time in the liquid sources is < 1 nsec. The magnetic parameters of the unified model deduced from this measurement are compared with other determinations in order to check the consistency of the model prediction.
