Abstract

The primary objective of this article is to establish and investigate the factors that influenced the development of the New Testament husband-wife codes. These influences are expressed in terms of the philosophical and moral writings of Graeco-Roman antiquity and those of some of the contemporary Jewish writers. The article argues the nature and influence of these ancient writings upon the New Testament husband-wife codes and in so doing provides the foundations used to express the exhortations to husbands and wives in the New Testament.
