Evidence for Multimode Nonradial Pulsations Gies, D. R. ; Kullavanijaya, A. Abstract The authors present high signal-to-noise ratio spectra of the Si III λλ4552, 4567, and 4574 lines of the line profile variable star ɛ Per obtained over one night in 1985 December and four nights in 1986 November using the McDonald Observatory Octicon, an array of eight Reticon detectors. Periodic signals in the time evolution of the line profiles have been searched for by a power spectrum analysis. Four dominating periods of 4.47, 3.84, 3.04, and 2.26 hr are found. The authors argue that the only plausible explanation for these variations is photospheric nonradial pulsations, and they derive the order of the nonradial pulsation modes m = -3, -4, -5, and -6, for the above periods.
