Abstract

Due to a static budget and rising costs for library materials, the Pullen Library of Georgia State University reviewed its monographic paperback binding practices. A revised policy slated that all paperback books would be added to the collection unbound. To determine the validity of this change, the authors undertook a research project to monitor the condition of these unbound paperback books. Using random sampling, 208 samples of new acquisitions were chosen to be studied. It was found that the blanket policy of binding paperback books for this academic library is not valid and is a waste of library resources.
