Abstract

The practical aspects of developing a lithium/bromine trifluoride battery have been studied. Efforts toward identifying materials for internal cell components via electrochemical testing techniques have resulted in a list of materials suitable for this application. Prototype cells utilizing a spirally wound electrode configuration have been constructed and discharged. Through the use of currently available technology, however, the lithium/bromine trifluoride couple has not delivered energy density comparable to other high energy density systems.
