Abstract
The scroll of the War of the Sons of Light against the Sons of Darkness deals with a number of issues that may be termed laws of war, areas in which the norms of the Torah are to be applied in the eschatological war that the text imagines and details. This chapter sets forth a complex sequence of events that are to take place leading up to the battle itself. The law of conscription is considered also in the Temple Scroll . At the outset it should be stated that the materials pertaining to the laws of war appear in two places in the Temple Scroll . A good comparison is to the Pharisaic-rabbinic purity laws that are at the core of the Rule of the Community . These laws provide the basis for the sectarian process of initiation and Penal Code.
