Abstract

The preparative and structural chemistry of the lanthanoid(II) halides is reviewed with emphasis on recent developments in preparatory procedures and phase studies. The chemistry of those systems where uncertainty remains is emphasized. Some recent results of lanthanoid(II) solution chemistry and of both mixed cation and mixed anion solid state ternary-phase chemistry are discussed.
