Abstract

Adrian Figg is an assistant professor in the Chemistry Department at Virginia Tech. In 2018, he received his PhD from the University of Florida, where he worked on controlled radical polymerization with Brent Sumerlin. From 2018 to 2021, he was a postdoctoral fellow with Chad Mirkin at Northwestern University, where he worked on polymerizing proteins by using oligonucleotides. His current research interests combine synthetic polymer chemistry with chemical biology. For example, the Figg group studies how to design polymers that can interact with proteins to understand the progression of neurological disease. Ultimately, the group aims to develop synthetic polymers that can inhibit, restore, or modulate protein functions.
