Abstract

In 1997, after an examination of the organization and purposes of its nomenclature activities, the IUBMB decided that the long-established division of responsibilities between two committees—the Nomenclature Committee of IUBMB (NC-IUBMB) and the IUPAC-IUBMB Joint Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (JCBN)—is still the preferred mechanism. These committees work and meet as a single body, and aim to facilitate communication of biochemical information by encouraging scientists to use generally understood terminology.
