Abstract

This research was conducted to detect some active allelopathic compounds in plant residues of six cultivars of barley, which are Furat, Rihan, Arivat, Shuaa, Samir and Baraka by using appropriate chemical reagents. Allelopathic compounds were isolated and identified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) device. The results of the primary qualitative detection were the presence of most of the secondary metabolites that include glycosides, alkaloids, tannins, terpenes, steroids, flavonoids, saponins, and resins in the residues of the barley cultivars. However, the detection results did not show the presence of steroids in the residues of different barley cultivars. The quantities of each of the glycosides, tannins, alkaloids, and flavonoids were measured, as the results showed that the highest concentrations of them were in the residues of the Samir cultivar. Besides, the analysis results with the (HPLC) showed the presence of several phenolic compounds in the residues of the different barley cultivars such as Rutin, Vanillin, Caffiec acid, Hydroquinone, Resorcinol, Quercetin.
