Abstract
Abstract The International Society of Blood Transfusion Working Party on Terminology for Red Cell Surface Antigens developed a terminology that brought order to the chaos of antigen names. They classified antigens into three categories: systems, collections, and series. This review summarizes the early decisions of the Working Party with an emphasis on the 700 series of low-incidence antigens and 901 series of high-incidence antigens.
