Abstract

The task of this article is to assess the role of the International Center for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) and its suggestions on enhanced cooperation within the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) institutional framework. The Center’s main activities in priority areas will be outlined and a description of its role as a policy‐oriented research centre will be given. Focus will be placed on the challenges the BSEC region faces, the actions envisaged by the staff of the Center in order to address them, and the concrete ways in which the ICBSS proposes to mobilize the scholarly community toward achieving the BSEC objectives as a European regional organization.
