Abstract
To fulfill the vision of providing an appropriate level of access to the wealth of information held at The Natural History Museum in London, a large number of factors must be considered and choices made. Some of these considerations are identified here reflecting the situation in the Museum as at the end of 2001. A brief description of some of the resulting projects is given which attempt to implement interoperability at and between the specimen, museum and natural history community levels. Although this is a case study in the area of natural history information, those in any subject area who are required to connect customers to information will face many of the same issues.
