Abstract

This paper is concerned with the ways in which a recrystallizing interface can interact with a dispersion ofγ′ precipitates in a commercial nickel-base superalloy. It is shown that two major phenomena occur. Firstly, rapid coarsening of theγ′ at the interface can lead to the formation of a low number density of large precipitates. Secondly, complete dissolution of the precipitate can occur with subsequent reprecipitation at the interface in a manner which is similar to that of a discontinuous/cellular reaction.
