Abstract
The intention-behavior relationship is analyzed with data from 10 U.S. and seven Swedish national election surveys. As expected from Fishbein's theory of reasoned action, the level of consistency between intention and behavior is very high in both nations. Among those whose intention is not compatible with their self-identity and their prior behavior, however, the intention-behavior relationship weakens considerably
