Abstract

Wind Power Plant (WPP) is a part of Renewable Energy Source (RES), which is well-known as a clean energy source. On the other hand, WPP has uncertain characteristics that may change suddenly according to the weather situation, which by nature cannot be dispatched by the system operator. It makes WPP categorized as Variable Renewable Energy (VRE). This uncertain nature has the potential to endanger the continuity of electricity supply. To reduce the uncertainty of WPP output, it needs accurate wind power forecast and flexible generation operation. This paper conveys experience in integrating Sidrap WPP and Jeneponto WPP to the Southern Sulawesi Power System. This paper explains the implementation of a procedure to integrate the results of the wind power forecast into the generation operation plan. Furthermore, this paper describes the accuracy statistic of wind power forecast results and the impact on the power system operation. Finally, this paper tells lessons learned of the WPPs integration and further work to be done to minimize the intermittency to maintain the reliability of the power system but keep the efficiency of operation cost.
