Abstract

This study covers the development of the Institute of Diplomatic Studies (IDS) Library from 1979 to 1986. The IDS functions under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The IDS Library has favoured the development of the diplomatic and professional skills of promising Saudi diplomats from a number of governmental agencies. In this time period, the IDA Library saw considerable development in library area, collections, technical services, staffing, and general support services. There is also a new administrative plan for organising the library and its services. The success of this depends on the skills of the library staff. The IDS Library currently has 12 staff members, three of whom were sent to the US to finish their doctorates in LIS.
