Abstract

This article discusses efforts over the past decade to strengthen social work research; in particular, the role of the Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research (IASWR) is highlighted. Activities that IASWR has undertaken to build research infrastructure, to advance the knowledge base of the profession, and to strengthen the relationship of research to practice and policy are discussed. The article concludes with a review of the current status of social work research and the presentation of IASWR’s 3-year Strategic Plan, 2001-2003, focused on continued efforts to strengthen social work research through Research Development, Research to Practice, and Research to Policy.
