Abstract

INTRODUCTIONMANY factors are known to contribute to the variation in egg production of chicken hens. Some of these factors are genetic, others are environmental and both contribute in varying degree to egg production over a particular period. The environmental factor of major concern in this study was ambient temperature and its effect on egg production. The different environments selected for testing were designed for the primary purpose of evaluating different ambient temperatures while randomizing all other variables. There has been considerable difference in the research findings as to the optimum environmental temperature in the laying house and whether or not it should remain the same throughout the entire production period. In addition, there is a lack of research based on sizeable numbers of hens tested over long production periods.
