Abstract

The effects of depolarization factor on the effective linear optical absorption and nonlinear susceptibility of metal-dielectric composite media are investigated. Two types of microstructures corresponding to those described by the extended Maxwell-Garnett Theory (MGT) and Effective Medium Approximation (EMA) are examined. By using decoupling approximation and spectral representation, we investigate the effect of the depolarization factor on the effective nonlinear response. Numerical results show that the linear absorption coefficient and the effective nonlinear susceptibility are strongly dependent on the depolarization factor and thus on the shape of the inclusions.
