Abstract

Abstract The embryonal development and survival of adults of Elysia viridis in lowered salinities was investigated. Adults survived down to 15‰, but produced egg masses only down to 17.5‰. Embryonal development normally took 5–6 days in 30‰, but was prolonged to over 8 days in 17.5‰. The percentage of abnormally developing eggs increased in low salinities, more than 90‰ abnormal in 17.5‰. The larvae hatched in a normal way only within the range 30–20‰.
