Abstract

The spin polarization of Auger electrons escaping from the Fe(100) surface has been calculated. All possible sources giving rise to spin polarization are discussed. It has been shown that taking account of different orbital symmetries of the valence d states, and including the electron diffraction by the surrounding atoms can significantly affect the value of the Auger electron spin polarization. The ratio of the and contributions to the Auger electron intensity also determines the shape of the Fe spectrum.
