Abstract

The Objective of this research is to find out the effect of the instructional strategy and cognitive style on Vocational High School student learning outcome. The strategy of this study is collaborative and direct. The student's cognitive style is field independent and field dependent types. The research conducted in State Vocational High School 3 Yogyakarta by using experiment of 2x2 factorial designs. The sample size was 132 students from State Vocational High School 3 Yogyakarta who were selected by multistage random sampling. The result of the research shows that (1) the learning outcome of student who were treated with collaborative strategy is higher than those who were treated with direct strategy, (2) a significant interactional effect between the instructional strategy and the cognitive style on Vocational High School students’ learning outcome in interpret technical drawing machine, (3) the learning outcome of field independent students who were treated with collaborative strategy are higher than those who were treated direct strategy, (4) the learning outcome of field dependent students, who were treated with collaborative strategy are not significant different than those who were treated direct strategy.
