Abstract

In the Collao, art and, especially, architecture from the late prehispanic period reflect the tenuous hold the Inca had on the region. The short time, less than eighty years, that the Inca were in the region was not sufficient for the local tradition to disappear, and in the region of Lake Titicaca Mesa and Gisbert (1973, p. 15) report that one can see superimposed construction techniques in the structures. In the northern Potos? (Bolivia) region, little architecture from the prehispanic period is extant; however, one does find Inca affiliated sites, recognized on the basis of their ceramic assemblage.
