Abstract

It has been recently recognized that biomechanics plays a crucial role in medicine. Corneal biomechanics is closely related to multiple aspects of corneal refractive surgery, such as indications for refractive surgery, choice of surgical methods, design of surgical parameters, management of surgical complications, prediction of surgical correction effect and long-term stability. By analyzing the various roles of biomechanics in corneal refractive surgery, this article aims to emphasize the possible influence of mechanics on corneal tissue, as well as the importance of biomechanics in corneal refractive surgery, so as to further improve the surgical safety, efficacy and predictability.
