Abstract
In this paper, according to the references of recent ten years, from the point of damages of excimer laser surgery on anatomical integrity of the cornea and corneal nerve system, we elaborate that traditional corneal refractive surgery and biomechanical properties of the cornea are closely linked. Corneal refractive surgeries have caused corneal thickness to become significantly thinner, destroyed its fiber structure, changed the cornea’s biomechanical parameters, and directly resulted in decreased elasticity of the cornea and redistribution of mechanical stress. In recent years, corneal collagen cross-linking therapy plays an important role in refractive surgery, is considered to be one of the most effective methods in prevention of keratoconus, and corneal ring implantation combined with surgery can enhance the effect of corneal crosslinking, so studying biomechanical properties and their functions of corneal collagen cross-linking treatment is a new technology with wide applications and high efficiency. Key words: Corneal refractive surgery; Corneal collagen cross-linking therapy; Keratoconus; Corneal biomechanics
