Abstract

Soundtracks are a vital element in film production, playing an essential role in creating atmospheres, amplifying emotions, and strengthening visual narrative. This paper reviews the existing literature on the influence of music in films, seeking to understand how different styles and composition techniques contribute to the viewer's experience. Articles published between 2010 and 2023, located in databases such as PubMed, Scielo, and JSTOR, were selected, which discuss the application and impact of soundtracks in various film genres. The studies analyzed use a variety of methodologies, from qualitative analysis of scenes to quantitative measurements of audience emotional reactions. Some authors have used audio analysis software to detail the structure of soundtracks and correlate these elements with viewers' emotional responses. The soundtracks of iconic films, such as "The Lord of the Rings" and "Inception", have been frequently cited for their ability to shape the narrative and intensify audience immersion. The results indicate that a well-crafted soundtrack not only complements the visual content, but can also completely transform the cinematic experience. Music helps build tension, sets the pace of scenes, and can even influence the audience's perception of the characters and story. The discussion emphasizes the importance of a careful integration between music and image, highlighting that the effectiveness of the soundtrack is deeply linked to its ability to dialogue with the plot and the desired emotions.
