Abstract
Dielectric measurements on liquid crystalline samples with different molecular shape are summarised. Most of the experimental data were already published before by different authors. Potential models are used to understand the partly exotic behaviour of the samples. The data underline the importance of repulsive forces for the formation of the liquid crystalline state.
