Abstract

Abstract Advances in prostate multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) continue to improve diagnostic accuracy for detecting clinically significant prostate cancer. High-quality studies demonstrate utility of mpMRI for augmenting the traditional biopsy pathway of random transrectal ultrasound biopsy after elevated PSA or abnormal digital rectal exam. mpMRI utilization has become more widespread, and it has become a priority to standardize prostate MRI acquisition, interpretation, and reporting across institutions and fields. Poor image quality may lead to missed lesions or inappropriate lesion characterization leading to inaccurate targeted biopsy and risk stratification. In this review, we aim to discuss the importance of image quality in prostate MRI, the current minimal technical standards for MRI, trends in adherence to these standards, and emerging attempts to standardize prostate mpMRI quality.
