Abstract

Visual impairment is a common consequence of stroke. The purpose of this article is to briefly outline the prevalence of visual impairment following stroke, the different types of visual impairment and rehabilitation options. Visual impairment occurs in up to 70% of stroke survivors and may take the form of eye-movement deficits, loss of field-of-vision, central vis ual acuity impairment or cognitive visual perceptual deficits. These may also occur in combination. Rehabilitation options may be restitutive, compensatory or substitutive.
