Abstract

The growing need for continuous improvement of manufacturing process and off-line quality control for product and process are the major thrust behind the implementation of simultaneous engineering expert system (SEES) for managing Total Quality. This paper discusses the methodology used to bridge the missing link between off-line quality control and on-line quality control concepts for combining the design and manufacturing functions to contribute to a robust product/process design. Indeed, a robust design requirements both engineering and statistical knowledge, and know-how experience. Therefore, an expert system, that contains the expert knowledge in engineering design and know-how in the field of engineering statistics such as off-line quality control and on-line quality control, has been developed to assist design and manufacturing engineers working together as a team, based on the principal of simultaneous engineering, in order to achieve low cost, high quality products.
