Abstract

Technology development has had a significant impact on translation. This research paper attempts to uncover the impact of technology on translation from translators and translation experts’ perspectives. It explores how translators view the effects of technology on their profession as well as the difficulties they encounter when dealing with such machine tools. An eclectic method is followed in the study, viz., expert interviews and a survey of professional translators, to grasp the attitudes towards technology in the translation industry. The findings show that people in the field of translation inconsistently opine about the current situation and varyingly speculate about the future of the relation between translation and technology. The study reveals that the accuracy of machine translation, the requirement for ongoing learning and training, and some moral issues with the application of translation technologies are the major concerns among human translators.
