Objective To explore the effect of KAP nursing model on the recovery of gastrointestinal function and psychological status of patients with colorectal cancer surgery. Methods The KAP-nursing intervention measures were implemented in September 2014 in our hospital, and the clinical data of 60 patients with colon cancer treated in our hospital from September 2013 to September 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. 30 cases of patients treated from September 2013 to August 2014 were taken as the control group and were given the regular nursing, while another 30 patients with colon cancer treated in our hospital from September 2014 to September 2015 were selected as the observation group and were given the KAP-nursing measures. The quality of sleep, mental status, the recovery of gastrointestinal function and satisfaction for nursing of the two groups after nursing were evaluated. Results After 7 days' and 14 days' nursing, the AIS score and the incidence of abdominal distension of the observation group were significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The ratio of HAMA and HAMD shown negative and degree of satisfaction of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The borborygmus recovery time, anal exhausting time, starting time for food of the observation group were significantly shorter than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions KAP nursing mode can improve the bad psychological state of the patients with colon cancer after radical resection and improve the quality of sleep, promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function, reduce adverse reactions and highly improve the satisfaction for nursing, hence it is worthy of a clinical application. Key words: KAP nursing model; Colon cancer; Gastrointestinal function; Psychological state
