Abstract

For the first time, the changes in the qualitative characteristics of the soil in the conditions of the lowering of the underground water level of the Ararat valley were investigated and compared as a result of the influence of human activities and natural phenomena. It was revealed that long-term use of land and the lowering of the underground water level led to the deterioration of the quality characteristics of the soil, in particular, to secondary salinization of soils and decreasing fertility. In order to prevent land degradation and desertification processes, it is recommended to limit the unaccountable use of underground water in the Ararat valley, to change the technologies and methods of soil cultivation, plant care and irrigation. It is necessary to enrich the soil with organic and mineral fertilizers and mulch it.
