Abstract

Online games are one of the most popular forms of entertainment among modern teenagers. If in the past minors played various physical or intellectual games with their peers, today they spend a significant part of their free time on virtual games, which, however, cannot replace human relationships. This issue is a growing concern among the public, as teenagers devote too much time to virtual games, neglecting real life. However, in addition to the loss of time, it is also important to consider the psychological impact of online games. The purpose of this article is to examine the effects of internet gaming on adolescent mental health. 165 people aged 12-17 participated in the research. The method of tests and psychological interviews was applied. Analysis of research results shows that virtual games are addictive and cause addiction among teenagers. The research also indicated that boys are 5% more likely to be addicted to the Internet games than girls. In addition, boys tend to play virtual games that contain battles and the urge to destroy a virtual opponent. Such games have a negative impact on the mental health of adolescents, causing aggression, nervousness, or other destructive manifestations.
