ABSTRACTThis article examines the impact of Chris Cutler in communist Czechoslovakia. It deals with issues such as the reception of Rock in Opposition by the official media and rock youth, and the ways the ideas and music of Rock in Opposition were distributed to a wider public. In this respect, the article discusses the unofficial activities of the Jazz Section; it touches on the political consequences of Cutler’s operation, his propagation of left-wing politics in the context of Czechoslovak state socialism, and, on the whole, the “dialogue through the Iron Curtain” which he managed to unleash with the Czechoslovak rockers.
