Abstract

The article deals with the unknown pages in the biography of Alexander Valentinovich Amfi teatrov, a popular publicist at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The article analyzes the creative periods of his work in mass periodicals of diametrically opposite ideological orientation. His views, including those on the editorial policy of periodicals, and political aspirations are revealed. The article is based on the materials of previously unpublished documents from the Manuscript Department of the Pushkin House and the archive of the Amphitheaters in the Lilly Library in Bloomington, USA.
