Abstract

I have often recommended students to submit essays to the Journal and several have been published. The majority of those published are by students who have taken a position on a moral and/or ethical issue. This paper, however, is different. I have known Nick throughout his four undergraduate years at Duke, and it has not been a smooth and uneventful matriculation for him. At times, as he suggests in his paper, it has taken a monumental effort on his part to survive. However, throughout his senior year his camp counselor experience at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp has been a constant, a reminder to him to do his best, to never give up, and that he is a person of real worth. His essay speaks to morals and ethics, but even more so to the value and meaning of life. Like Nick says, “I hope you get it!” And by the way, Nick graduated in May.
