Abstract
I am pleased to introduce this edition of the Clinics in Sports Medicine. We are often so busy with the day-to-day practice of sports medicine that we do not stop to consider some of the ethical and legal issues that we must wrestle with regularly. This issue focuses on ethical issues facing athletes and physicians alike, reviews issues regarding informed consent, and provides a historical review and ethical recommendations.Additonally, I thought it would be helpful to review some medical issues in sports medicine to include a discussion of the female athlete and rehabilitation principles. We have received permission to reprint three articles by Fitzgerald, Kauder, and Malkani, all orthopedic physicians, each of which provides a nice review of these areas. I hope you enjoy this “potpourri” edition of the Clinics in Sports Medicine. I am pleased to introduce this edition of the Clinics in Sports Medicine.
