Abstract
The Greenwich Time Signal, or the ‘pips’ as it is often known, was first broadcast by the BBC on 5th February 1924. The methods used to generate this signal have been rich and varied. This article traces their development from the technology first used at the Royal Greenwich Observatory through to the present arrangements at BBC Broadcasting House in London.
