THE HISTORY OF ESTABLISHING LOMONOSOV MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY SCIENTIFIC SCHOOLS OF ENGINEERING GEOLOGY AND ECOLOGICAL GEOLOGY THEIR LEADERS, TEAMS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Abstract

The article describes the development stages and the achievements of scientific schools of engineering geology and the scientific school of ecological geology of Lomonosov Moscow State University. It is shown that the first scientific schools of the engineering-geological direction — the school of soil science and the school of technical soil reclamation — began to be formed in the first half of the twentieth century, and the school of ecological geology — in the end of the twentieth century. University school of engineering geology is a complex structure that completed establishing in the late seventies of the last century under the leadership of E.M. Sergeev. It constitutes of the school of soil science of MSU previously created by M.M. Filatov and the school for the technical soil reclamation of MSU created by S.S. Morozov, as well as the following university schools that were formed later during his leadership: the school of morphological and genetic soil science, the school of physical and chemical soil science, the school of microstructure research of soils, the school of engineering geodynamics (created by I.V. Popov and G.S. Zolotarev) and the school of regional engineering geology (created by I.V. Popov). At present, a scientific school of dynamics of soils was formed within the framework of theintegrated school of soil science under the leadership of E.M. Voznesenskii. Team members of these schools are well-known, ideas put forward and implemented by them are presented in extensive original publications, their achievements are publicly recognized. The scientific school of ecological geology — a fundamentally new direction of geology — was formed at the beginning of the present century under the leadership of V.T. Trofimov. Within its framework, were developed the theoretical and methodological basis of environmental geology, the doctrine of the ecological functions of the lithosphere, the laws of their transformation in the era of technogenesis; the programs of disciplines introduced by the State Educational Standard of the direction «Environmental Geology», training manuals on many of them have been prepared and published; training of undergraduate and graduate degree students was started in Russ.ian academia.
