Abstract
Abstract The present article explains in detail how a Spanish Practicum course was conceived and functions at Lewis and Clark College. The purpose of the course is to use students of Spanish as English tutors for Spanish‐speaking individuals on campus and in the community. The latter is achieved by working with several agencies which provide services to Hispanics. Besides receiving credit, the participating students benefit culturally and linguistically from their intercultural experience. The Spanish curriculum is also enhanced by the addition of a practical course which establishes links between the department, the school, and a sector of the community.
