Abstract
Assuming the inflation field in the early universe to be that of the Higgs scalar ϕ, an equation of state of the vacuum has been proposed and analysed. There is a remarkable possibility for a universal application of the equation to three different unification scales of energy during the epoch of the evolution of the early universe; an estimate of the upper bounds of the critical temperatures corresponding to the GUT, electroweak and quark hadronic phase transition scales has also been made along with the mass of the Higgs boson.
