Abstract

The liver is unique among solid organs in its ability to regenerate following injury. After partial resection, the fact that the liver can subsequently restore near-normal mass has allowed for the development of modern surgical procedures whereby a significant portion may be resected and even transplanted into another patient, largely without major clinical repercussion.
