Abstract

A radiochemical study has been made of the 41 and 65 MeV helium ion-induced fission of 181Ta. The fission fragment mass distribution curves are Gaussian-shaped but appear to be narrow with values of the width at half-maximum of 2 ± 1 atomic mass units and 4 ± 1 atomic mass units at helium ion energies of 41 and 65 MeV respectively. The total fission cross-sections after being corrected for charge distribution effects were approximately 0·1 μbarns and 23 μbarns at the above two energies.
